Few people realize that homes are one of the most dangerous places for U.S. families. But with the right information and repairs, homes can be safe and healthy.
The Challenge is a partnership between Rebuilding Together and the National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH), the leading expert in healthy homes, with funding support from the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation and Freddie Mac. Each year, Rebuilding Together’s 200 affiliates mobilize 100,000 volunteers to make repairs at no charge to the homes of low-income seniors, veterans, the disabled, and families with children.
The Healthy Housing Challenge is helping Rebuilding Together affiliates change their operations to make health and safety repairs the primary focus. The Challenge helps affiliates identify all major hazards, improve the quality of work, and invest an average of $2,500 additional per home to find and fix the problems.
